Weary Clarity

Late one night

In a moment of weary clarity

I asked you

“Elsewhere, would we still

Belong together?” You fell silent

Your only answer the

Clicking of keys

And a strange look

In your eyes Too long we’ve walked abreast

Through hellfire and stardust

But fool that I saw more than

Casual acquaintanceship

Blinded, I suppose By a fleeting

Glimpse of heaven

And so here we are

You free

And I still me Three too late but at last

I had my answer

Those clicking keys spelling
